Sudha Murthy was born on 19 August 1950 (Saturday) in Shiggaon, Haveri, Karnataka. Sudha’s father Dr. R H Kulkarni was a renowned surgeon and her mother Vimala Kulkarni was a school teacher. Sudha was fond of studies since childhood.
She always topped her class. From BVB College of Engineering & Technology, she completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering. Then passed the M.E. exam in computer science from the Indian Institute of Science. Sudha was awarded the Gold Medal for standing first in both examinations.
Personal Life
Sudha and Narayan met while working at Telco. Narayana Murthy was shy. Sudha Murthy was a courageous and ambitious girl. Both of them had met in Pune by their friend Prasanna. Murthy invites Sudha to dinner with some of her friends. Since Sudha was the only girl in that group, at first she refused to come. But on the repeated insistence of Narayan Murthy, Sudha reached Green Fields Hotel.
Soon both of them became friends. Both always used to talk about studies. Whenever both went on a date, Sudha used to pay the bill because Sudha used to earn more at that time. One day Narayan told Sudha that I am from a middle-class family and may never become rich, but you are very beautiful and talented. You’ll get what you want, but will you marry me? Sudha was surprised to hear this and asked for some time to answer.
After this Sudha told about this her parents. Fighting against all odds, both of them got married on 10 February 1978 (Friday) in Bangalore. They also have two children, their daughter’s name is Akshata and their son’s name is Rohan.

Career
Sudha complained to the chairman of the company about the absence of any female employee in Tata’s telco company. She immediately called Sudha for a special interview and appointed her. She then joined the Walchand Group of Industries as Senior System Analyst. She has been a trustee of the Infosys Foundation since its inception in 1996. She is also a visiting professor at a prestigious college in Bangalore.
Sudha Murthy is the wife of N Nairana Murthy, the founder of Infosys, the largest company in the IT sector. Along with this, she is also the chairperson of this company. - Sudha Murthy is also the trustee and chairperson of the Information technology company “Infosys Foundation”. With a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, she started the Infosys Foundation in 1996.
- Sudha Murthy was the first lady engineer to work in TELCO (Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company), India’s largest auto manufacturer.
