Eknath Shinde is a politician from India. He served as the Cabinet Minister of Urban Development and Public Works (Public Undertakings) in the Maharashtra government. He is the current Member of Legislative Assembly for Thane’s Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency.
He was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly four times in a row, in 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019.

Eknath Shinde is a Maratha who was born in the Jawali taluka of Satara, Maharashtra. His family relocated to Thane, on Mumbai’s outskirts, in order to make a living. Eknath attended Mangala High School & Junior College in Thane until the 11th grade.Shinde used to work as an auto-rickshaw driver to support his family.
Shinde’s sons Dipesh (11), and Shubhada (7) went boating in a lake near their native village in Maharashtra on June 2, 2000. The boat capsized, and both of the children drowned. Shinde suffered from depression for several months. Shinde received emotional support from Anand Dighe, who entrusted him with increased responsibility in order to keep his mind occupied and away from depression.
