Axar Patel is an Indian international all-round cricketer who plays for Gujarat in domestic cricket and for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The all-rounder made his debut opposite Bangladesh on 15th June 2014 and was also picked in India’s 15-man squad for the 2015 Cricket World Cup which was held in New Zealand and Australia.
On February 13, 2021, Axar Patel made his Test debut for India against England, taking 7 wickets in this Test match. In the IPL auction 2023, the franchise of the Delhi Capitals team included Axar Patel in the team by buying him for Rs 12.00 crore.

Axar Patel was born on 20 January 1994 (Thursday) to his father Rajesh Patel and his mother Pritiben Patel. His full name is Axar Rajeshbhai Patel and he is also known as Axar Patel. Axar Patel has an elder sister Shivangi Patel and also has an elder brother Sanship Patel.
Axar Patel never wanted to become a cricketer but wanted to become a mechanical engineer. However, when Axar was just fifteen years old, Axar’s friend saw Axar’s cricketing skills and recommended he play in an inter-school tournament.
Since he was not very strong at the start of his cricket career, his father was a bit worried about how he would cope with the physical demands of the sport. So, Axar’s father enrolled him in a gym.

Axar Patel’s Domestic Career
In 2010, he met with an accident just after being selected for the Gujarat Under-19 team. All-rounder Axar Patel injured his leg at home during the Diwali break, thereafter Axar was ruled out for the entire season.
During this period, he considered giving up cricket, but his grandmother’s desire to see him play on TV prompted him to return.
In his debut Ranji Trophy season of 2012, he played only one match, but he had an exceptional performance in the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy season as he was one of the most consistent players for Gujarat as he scoring 369 runs at an average of 46.12. and took 29 wickets with an economy rate of 23.58 in 7 matches.
Axar Patel was named to the India Red team’s squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy, in August 2019. In October 2019, Patel was named to India C’s squad for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.
Axar Patel’s IPL career
Axar Patel was signed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) in the year 2013, however, Axar did not get an opportunity to play until he was released.
Axar Patel was picked up by Kinga XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2014 and had an impressive season with 17 wickets. For IPL 2015 season 8, Axar Patel was retained by Kings XI Punjab, and batting lower down the order, he scored 206 runs in addition to taking 13 wickets for the IPL team in 2015.
On 1 May 2016, during a match opposite Gujarat Lions (GL), Axar took 4 wickets in just 5 balls, including his first hat-trick of the 2016 Indian Premiere League season. Axar was again retained by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) for the 2018 season.
In December 2018, Axar Patel was signed by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League and was retained by Delhi Capitals (DC) for 14 seasons of IPL.

After a tremendous performance in the 2014 Indian Premiere League, Axar Patel got a place in the Indian One Day International squad for the tour of Bangladesh.
He made his One Day International (ODI) debut in the first match of the series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and took 1/59. For the 2015 Cricket World Cup, Axar Patel was also a part of India’s 15-man squad.
Axar made his T20 International debut on 17th July 2015 for the Indian cricket team opposite the team Zimbabwe and was named as a stand-by player for India’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
In January 2021, Axar Patel was named in India’s Test squad for the series against England. He made his Test debut against England and returned to international cricket after a gap of almost 3 years.
